THIS truck driver got a shock this morning when he pulled over to give way to a car - and ended up in a ditch.

The verge collapsed and the truck tipped onto its side at about 9.30am in Kirby Sigston, near Northallerton.

It is believe the incident took place near a narrow bridge over Cod Beck as the driver pulled over to allow a car through.

North Yorkshire Police confirmed they had received a call this morning from a member of the public to report an HGV was on its side, lodged in a hedge.

The accident hadn't resulted in the road being blocked and traffic was able to continue to use the highway.

At about 2.15pm the lorry’s cargo was unloaded in order to move the vehicle and a recovery vehicle was sent to the scene.

The recovery was expected to be completed within about two hours.

North Yorkshire County Council's highways department was notified to check for damage to the road and verge.

Nobody was injured in the incident.
