FARMER Lizzie James carried off the coveted title of Reserve Breed Champion with her prize winning Holstein dairy cow, Littlebridge Goldchip Honey

Lizzie, whose family have farmed as J L Miles and Son at Ellerbeck, near Northallerton, for nearly 100 years, had her best year yet at the show and she’s putting it down to her good luck charm, three-month-old son Harry.

As well as the Reserve Breed Champion, Littlebeck was also awarded the best heifer in milk and best overall udder.

Lizzie, who was born and bred on the farm, always wanted to go into the family business, which was originally started by her granddad. After gaining a degree in agriculture she has spent the past five years working with the farm's 120 dairy cattle.

Mrs James said: “I’ve been showing for ten years and this is the most success we have had. I work with my dad Peter, it’s a real family business." She added: "This is Harry’s first show and I would love it if he decided he wanted to be a dairy farmer as well, it would be up to him eventually of course, but this is a really good start for him.”
