A NORTHERN Soul club has donated hundreds of pounds to a community group for elderly residents.

Northallerton Soul Club holds regular music nights in the town, which raise funds for local charities and organisations. Most recently it donated £500 to the Priory Close Community Room Group.

The community room is part of a housing association complex at Priory Close in Northallerton. It is run by residents who were set to lose the facility when owners Broadacres intended to build two extra bungalows on the site of the building.

The volunteers who room the community room have to find £9,000 a year in running costs after taking on responsibility for the hall, which they use to hold regular social events and fundraising fairs.

People aged from 60 to 91 use the building on a regular basis and take part in bowls, dominoes, bingo, coffee mornings and fairs.

The soul club committee, Dave Robertson, Julie Robertson, Julie Graham and Rob Good, organise Northern Soul events in the town to raise funds for charities and organisations in Northallerton.

They will be holding their next dance night on October 21 in the town hall. Tickets will be available on the door.
