LOCAL people are being asked to play a part in a major new development - by coming up with names for the streets.

Working in partnership with Persimmon Homes and Taylor Wimpey, Hambleton District Council needs to name over 20 new streets in the north Northallerton development..

The development lies in the Northallerton and Brompton ward and suggestions are requested to reflect the history and geography of the area or animals and flowers.

Cllr David Webster said: “The district council has the legal responsibility to ensure all streets and properties in the Hambleton area are named and numbered correctly.

“To make it harder still we are unable to use duplicate names that already exist in the district, such as references to the Battle of Standard, saints, tree names or names of living people or living memorial to someone."

  • The consultation runs until July 9. To submit a suggestion complete the online form at hambleton.gov.uk/survey/streetname. Hard copies available at the Civic Centre, the leisure centre, the library and the Forum.
