AN ANNUAL Memorial Dinner in honour of Lance Corporal Ben Hyde took place at the Golden Lion Hotel in his Northallerton home town.

L Cpl Hyde was killed in Iraq in 2003, aged just 23. Since 2005 his parents have organised an annual event in his name to coincide with the date he was killed.

Around 100 guests attended the evening and enjoyed a three-course meal and a presentation from guest speaker Jane Corbin, a journalist and documentary-maker, best known for her work on BBC’s Panorama programme.

Ms Corbin talked about her time and experiences working in Iraq during the conflict.

The event also featured special guest, Paralympian gold medallist Laurence Whiteley, who has received support from the Trust set up in Ben’s name.

Ben’s mother Sandra Hyde said the evening was enjoyed by all and that the memorial event proves popular every year.
