A BOWLING club - whose members range in age from 12 to their mid-nineties - is looking for more people to join its ranks.

Northallerton Bowling Club, on South Parade in the town currently has 50 bowlers.

Two years ago the club secured a £52,000 Sport England grant and put the money towards an extensive renovation scheme.

The grant allowed the bowling group to install a solar heating system, replace its 1988 kitchen, lay new carpets and redecorate the interior.

It also received a smaller grant from Hambleton District Council to replace unsafe washroom flooring and plumbing.

The money allowed the club to put ambitious plans into practice to encourage more people into the sport, including children, youth groups and families.

Now it is looking for new members of all ages and abilities to join its ranks and maintain the club’s momentum.

For anyone interested in having a go, free bowling tasters sessions are being held on Tuesday evenings at 6.30pm and Saturday mornings at 10.30am. Those wanting to take part are asked to wear flat soled shoes.

The club is also looking for social members who can play carpet bowls, snooker, cards, dominoes or bingo. For further information contact Val Coe on 01609-771376.
