YOUNG role models have been honoured by staff and their peers for their achievements and dedication to school life.

Northallerton School and Sixth Form College students Lizzie Mallett and Josh Form were presented with the Cuthbert Cross in a closely fought contest from a short-list of inspirational sixth form students.

First awarded in 1910, the sold silver cross is given annually to a boy and girl who ‘by loyal chivalrous and honourable conduct have done the most to enhance the character and reputation of the school’.

Languages student Lizzie, 18, who is currently studying A level French, English and psychology, said: “I am extremely happy to have won.

“I remember watching the presentation last year and thinking that it must be great to receive such an honour as it shows respect from both staff and fellow students and also an appreciation for hard work and community spirit.”

Josh, 17, of Brompton, who is studying A level maths, added: “I knew that I had been shortlisted but never thought that I’d win, especially with the calibre of students I was up against.”
