VOLUNTEERS for a project that raises money for food parcels are celebrating after successfully completing a food safety course.

Twelve volunteers from Hambleton FoodShare’s ‘Soup and a Roll’ team have all achieved their Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificates.

The volunteers, who either make or serve the soup, are part of the team that serves soup and a roll for £2 every Wednesday between noon and 1.30pm at the Zion United Reformed Church on the High Street in Northallerton.

There is a choice of four soups each week and tea and coffee is also available.

And for those in a rush, there is also a take-out option too.

Margaret Brice, project co-ordinator, said: “We are delighted that so many of our volunteers came forward for this important training and continue to show such commitment to ensuring that soup and a roll maintains the highest of standards as we serve the public week by week.

“All the proceeds go to support the vital work of Hambleton FoodShare which provides emergency food parcels for people who are in temporary financial crisis and struggling to feed themselves and their families.

“This could be because they have lost their job, become incapacitated or the result of a delay in benefit payments. So please come along and support us.”
