THE popularity of a school breakfast club set up to ensure children get a meal at the start of the day has resulted in it being extended for a further two years.
Children at Alverton Community Primary School in Northallerton will now be able to tuck into toast, cereals, fresh fruit, juice, milk and water – as well as a cooked breakfast on a Friday - until at least 2019.
It come after Broadacres Housing Association announced it was providing further funding of £3,500 – through its community involvement budget – for the next two years in partnership with the Greggs Foundation.
To celebrate, the school invited mums to join their children for a special breakfast.
Head Richard Linsley said: “We have seen a real spike in the number of children coming to the breakfast club and having a meal before the start of the school day.
“Aside from improvements seen in concentration levels, the club has also been beneficial in boosting social interaction and encouraging the children to undertake activities, such as reading and maths.”
