THE work of young offenders to improve the garden area of a North Yorkshire extra care scheme has received national recognition.
The North Yorkshire Youth Justice Service was commended in the High Sheriffs’ Association of England and Wales’ 2016/17 National Crimebeat Awards.
The commendation was in recognition for the work young offenders did on a project at Broadacres’ Rivendale extra care scheme in Northallerton.
Working with members of the residents’ gardening club, the youngsters performed several tasks, including creating a path which has made it easier for residents to access the garden.
Youth Justice spokesman Dave McKenzie-Brown, said: “I am pleased to report that the young people who were involved in the garden project last year are now all in work or at college and have stayed out of trouble.”
