A ROYAL visitor and Hawk Jet flypasts are set to mark an RAF Squadron's centenary celebrations in style.

The Duchess of Cornwall is set to visit RAF Leeming, Northallerton, to mark the 100 Squadron's centenary on March 18.

The Duchess will greet veterans, service personnel and their families before enjoying a display from four Hawk T1A Jets that will create a simulated airfield attack, followed by a ‘Diamond Nine’ fly-past.

Following the flypast The Queens Colour Squadron will take to the parade square where they will form up a ‘100 Shape’ in celebration of the squadron's centenary.

The Duchess will then say a few words ahead of a reception with personnel and families from RAF Leeming.

The events will celebrate the heritage of the first Royal Flying Corps squadron formed specifically for night bombing during the First World War.

Number 100 Squadron formed at Hingham, Norfolk in February 1917, and moved to France a month later.

By the end of the year, No 100 was at the centre of what was to become the Independent Force used for the strategic bombing of Germany.

Now serving as the RAF’s Aggressor Squadron ‘The Ton’ delivers a huge range of operational training, including support to the Typhoon force and Joint Terminal Attack Controller serials for the British Army.
