FLIPPING dinosaurs joined in as people turned out for pancake races across the region.

In Northallerton the adults were challenged to turn out in fancy dress and joined children from the Applegarth School to find the best flippers and runners.

Staff from local businesses and shops took part also helping to raise money for the Naomi’s Fight for Life Fund supporting brain tumour research which was started by nurse Lucy Savage after her daughter was diagnosed with a tumour when she was four in 2007

Organiser Julie Hutson said: “The races have become fixed in the town’s calendar and are a fun way of encouraging friendly competition among traders while raising funds for an important cause.”

More than 100 children from Bedale Primary School and Mowbray School took part in the town’s traditional pancake race. For decades the race was held in the town’s Market Place but after safety concerns and problems with road closures the Co-op offered to host the races in its car park.

Organiser Peter Parlour, who has been running the event for 40 years, said: "It was another great day, in all those years we’ve never had a wet day, the sun always seems to shine on us. To see the children’s faces is just wonderful, they all receive a chocolate egg with the winners carrying off a bigger version."
