A CHARITY which supports adults with disabilities has almost reached its target to raise £5,000 for new projects, writes Abbey Hall.

Chopsticks, based in Northallerton, is a social enterprise group which provides work for adults, and specialises in the kindling of wood made from scrap timber and off-cuts.

With extra funding the charity wants to expand this cover bespoke artwork and landscaping services along with social media training for its workers.

The fundraising target has now reached £4,000 with a single donation of £1,145 by the congregation at Aske Chapel.

Chopsticks wants to launch a new scheme called ChopArts, where ceramic artwork would be produced and personalised by the charity workers and sold to public.

Phil Bramhall, charity administrator and development officer at Chopsticks said he was thrilled with the new donation given by the church. “We can now put in an order for a new lawn mower for the garden care work. This really gives us a boost of confidence and initiative."

"What we have learned from fundraising is that we need to be specific and transparent, we must show what the money is being used for," he said.

The charity would also like to take on more workers.

Mr Bramhall added: "I think there is scope for further development and expansion of our services, and our facilities. That could include an additional site. It’s definitely something we are actively considering with our fundraising, which comes in three forms. These are direct funding from the services, sale of products, and we also look for more funding via grants and organised events. ”
