A NEW road layout at a problem junction in North Yorkshire is causing problems says a local councillor.

Norton’s county councillor Elizabeth Shields said she had been contacted numerous times regarding the changes at the the junction with Church Street and Welham Road.

She said: “Complaints regarding the new road lay-out in Norton are becoming more constant and vociferous.”

She added: “An immediate review of the situation is needed and I have already contacted both highways at Kirby Misperton and at Northallerton.”

North Yorkshire Council Council implemented the changes to try and reduce traffic at the busy junction which is close to a train level crossing.

A council spokesman said Network Rail has confirmed that the crossing is clearing quicker.

He added: “This means that now the barriers can be lowered without delay and benefits all users of this crossing.”

The council is continuing to monitor the junction.
