A DRAWING by a North Yorkshire youngster can be seen by thousands of people across the area after it was selected as the winner of a shopping bag design competition run by a local store.

Tesco on East Road, Northallerton, invited primary school pupils from across the town to take part in a drawing competition where they were asked to design a poster depicting what they love about their local area.

Victoria Baldyga, aged nine, from Alverton Primary School, drew the winning design which has been transferred onto limited edition hessian bags that have been given away in the shop.

Victoria has also won a £25 gift card for herself and a healthy workshop for her class.

Colleagues from the store, Heather Small and Mark Swales, went to the school to take part in a special assembly where they presented Victoria with her prize and the hessian bags.

Store manager Faye Stevenson said: “We received hundreds of wonderful entries but it was Victoria’s design that really stood out for us. Her picture was very well drawn and looks fantastic on the bags.”

Fellow store manager Gemma Manders added: “Victoria’s drawing was very bright and cheerful and we have received lots of lovely comments from customers about the bags. We would like to thank everyone who entered and congratulate Victoria for winning the competition.”
