FRESH from speaking in the House of Commons, shop manager Becky Wallis has reached another milestone.

The 23-year-old who manages the Herriot Hospice Homecare store in Northallerton high street, recently completed her NVQ Level 3 Advanced Diploma in Management.

The course looked at everything involved in being a manager, from resolving complaints through to equality and diversity.

Becky, who lives with her daughter Ella in Thirsk, said: “It was a hard year of being monitored whilst I worked in the shop and doing a lot of computer-based story, but it was definitely worth it.

“I only started working in Herriot’s charity shop in Thirsk a few years ago, and that was just providing maternity cover, so to progress to become manager of this store so quickly and achieve the qualifications I have is very satisfying.”

In the summer, Becky was one of only five apprentices from across the UK chosen to speak at an event in London organised by the Chartered Management Institute (CMI).

She spoke in front of an audience twice, a conference in the CMI offices and later in the Members’ Dining Room at the House of Commons.

Becky, who is now planning to do her Level 4 in Management, added: “It’s been a fantastic year for me. Herriot have been very supportive of me and I am learning all the time. I couldn’t be happier.”

Kathryn Harrison, Herriot Hospice Homecare’s Head of Income, said: “We are very proud of Becky and what she has achieved. She is a credit to the charity.”
