AN MP has undergone a grilling from some of his youngest constituents during a visit to a local school.

Pupils at Brompton primary school, near Northallerton, fired a barrage of questions at Richmond Tory MP Rishi Sunak when he visited the school council.

Questions ranged from whether he was happy with the result of the European referendum vote to how he became an MP and to what he most liked and disliked about the job. There was also a discussion about notions of individual liberty and democracy.

The MP was also asked about his favourite sports and whether he could help the school make the road outside the entrance safer as there are concerns about the danger posed by speeding vehicles and parking opposite the school.

“I was very impressed by the thought-provoking questions which raised some very important issues,” said the MP afterwards.

“It was most encouraging to see young people interested in how the country is run and learning about how they will be involved in the democratic process when they get older.”

He was shown around by school council members Ruby Cullen and Daniel Boyce.
