RESIDENTS in a rural parish with a population of less than 500 are being invited to voice their views on future housing needs.

Hambleton District Council will stage a consultation event at the village hall in Appleton Wiske, between Northallerton and Yarm on October 28, from 3pm to 7pm, to establish what kind of housing villagers would like to see if a site was developed off Hornby Road.

Local people will be invited to register their housing need with the authority’s Rural Housing Enabler, which identifies, develops and progresses affordable housing opportunities in settlements of with populations of less than 3,000.

The event follows an outline application being submitted for five houses in the Hunters Ride area of the village and a plan being passed to redevelop the Shorthorn Inn into houses.
