ALMOST 600 runners took to the streets of Northallerton this morning (Sunday, May 29) for the town's first ever 10k race.

The sold-out event started in the High Street at 11am and took the 560 participants out of Northallerton via Sandy Bank, before they cut through a country track towards Bullamoor.

The route then dropped back into the town down Scholla Lane, and runners finished on the High Street, cheered along by crowds of spectators.

All proceeds from the run are going to the Pendragon Community Trust, a charity which is raising money for a long-awaited multi-sensory centre catering for people with a wide range of disabilities.

Organisers described the race as "incredible" and said it had been such a success that it will return "bigger and better" in 2017 on Sunday, May 28.
