A GROUP which brings together organisations involved in supporting people with dementia or memory problems and their families and carers is holding a public event.

The newly formed Dementia Collaborative, which works across Hambleton and Richmondshire, wants people directly or indirectly affected by dementia to come along to Northallerton Library on Monday (May 16) from 11.30am to 1.30pm to find about what it does.

The event is being supported by NHS Hambleton, Richmondshire and Whitby Clinical Commissioning Group (HRW CCG) and coincides with Dementia Awareness Week, which runs between May 15 and 20.

Janet Crampton, chair of Hambleton Dementia Action Alliance, a partner organisation which is a member of the new collaborative, said: “The aim is to make the towns and villages and communities of the area more dementia-friendly so that people living with the condition can live well and can continue to access all the aspects of their lives that they value and enjoy."

Janet Probert, chief officer of HRW CCG, said: “Groups like this can only grow with the public’s help.

“I would love to see the Dementia Collaborative expand so that next year, a local event for Dementia Awareness Week will be even bigger and will be able to support many more of our residents, their families and their carers.”
