BOUQUETS of flowers are expected to appear in unlikely locations in North Yorkshire tomorrow (Friday, May 6) as local flower arrangers engage in random acts of kindness.

Members of Northallerton and District Flower Club are joining a national campaign to leave “friendship posies” for unsuspected passers-by to find. Flowers could turn up in doorways, on well-known landmarks, car parks or benches.

People who find them are invited to take them home to enjoy and ring the number on the label to let the organisers know where they have ended up.

The Lonely Bouquet initiative run by the National Association of Flower Arrangement Societies (NAFAS) is designed to coincide with National Flower Arranging Day. The idea was sparked by a young Belgium florist named Emily Avenso, who blogged about the idea of leaving flowers for strangers several years ago and the initiative quickly took off.

Last year Northallerton and District Flower Club left flowers in locations including bus stops and supermarket car parks.

Maggy Price, from the club, said flowers could be left anywhere in and around Northallerton tomorrow by members of the club. “Last year was the first year it had been done and members will be leaving posies of friendship the length and breadth of Britain. The idea that people could find some flowers anywhere with the note “please take me home” does appeal to people.”

The Northallerton group will also be hosting a flower arranging demonstration at Romanby WI hall near Northallerton tomorrow.
