A NORTH Yorkshire man who has lived with multiple sclerosis for the last two years is helping lead the fight against the condition.

Edward Felshaw, a 30-year-old from Bedale, has been crowned as the Young Fundraiser of the Year at the MS Society Awards in London.

It was in honour of his work in organising a day-long event involving two rounds of golf and a 50-mile cycle which raised over £12,000 for the charity.

Edward was diagnosed with relapsing remitting MS in 2014 after experiencing blurred vision in one eye.

Finding it difficult to come to terms with his MS and talk to people about his condition, Edward put on an event he hoped would raise awareness as well as funds.

He has also participated in a 24-hour duathlon, run the Great North Run twice and completed the Rat Race 20-mile obstacle course.

“I can’t put into words what it means to me to have won Fundraiser of the Year,” said Edward.

“When I was planning my event, I never expected to raise £3,000 never mind £12,000. And I certainly did not expect to get this kind of recognition. This whole experience has been really humbling.”

Edward attended the ceremony with his mother and was presented with his award by Paralympian Kadeena Cox – who also suffers from MS.
