PREPARATIONS are underway for one of the region’s largest, free bonfire and firework displays.

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service is staging the annual event in Northallerton, on behalf of the town council.

The community event will involve a display in a safe, controlled environment suitable for all ages.

Organisers want to encourage as many people and families from across the town and the neighbouring villages to attend the free event to cut down on the number of accidents and injuries that occur on Bonfire Night.

The fun starts at 6.30pm on Thursday, November 5 at the Applegarth in Northallerton.

Star Radio’s Tim Lichfield will be entertaining the crowds ahead of the bonfire countdown and families can enjoy a selection of food and merchandise stalls and funfair rides.

The event is being supported by Simon Bailes Peugeot and MR Bailes said: “This a wonderful event, but more importantly it is one that is safe for people of all ages.”

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service has also issued safety tips for anyone who plans to celebrate at home.

Their advice includes; only buy fireworks from a legitimate retailer, check fireworks are suitable for the size of the garden and do not mix alcohol and fireworks.
