ENTHUSIASTIC swim team members will be holding their noses for their next fundraising drive.

The young athletes are preparing for the Great Northallerton Muck Spread next week, when they will take to the streets to sell tonnes of well-rotted manure to the town’s keen gardeners.

Members of Northallerton Amateur Swimming Club, who are raising cash for a week-long trip to a training camp in Spain next year, will accompany a trailer load of the farm-sourced fertiliser on a pre-determined route around Northallerton on Saturday, November 7.

Club chairman Sam Davison said: “This is a great character-building opportunity for those involved, even if it is a little different from our more usual supermarket bagpacking and coffee mornings.

“A generous parent is supplying more than ten tonnes of great, well-rotted manure. We’ll sell it to the good gardening folks of Northallerton by the barrow-load – or, for those who prefer a semi-sealed option, by the bag load.”

The do-good dung will sell for £5 per barrow load, or £3 bag.

“We hope to make lots of money to help get the swimmers to their training camp in Spain, and amazing roses for the green-fingered folk of our town,” said Sam.
