A CHARITY which supports people with learning disabilities is driving ahead with its work – thanks to teams of enthusiastic golfers.

An annual charity gold day organised by the Northallerton-based housing association Broadacres raised £6,000 for Breathing Space to help people develop their ability to pursue leisure activities.

It is the largest amount Broadacres has raised in the 17 years it has held the golf day, which took place again at the Rockliffe Hall Golf Club in Hurworth, Darlington.

A total of 20 teams took part in the event, which culminated with an evening meal, raffle and sealed auction. The auction prizes included an overnight stay at the five-star Rockliffe Hall Hotel, donated by Taylor Wimpey North Yorkshire.

The association’s chief executive, Steve Towers, said: “Through the golf day we have always sought to support local charities and there are few more deserving than Breathing Space.

“The charity does a fantastic job supporting people with learning disabilities in Hambleton and Richmondshire, so we are delighted to have been able to raise this money for them.

“It was a very enjoyable day in no small part due to all the teams who took participated, so we would like to thank everyone who took part in the event for their generosity.”
