PEOPLE can now support a North Yorkshire foodbank by popping into a church to buy a hot, homemade lunch.

Volunteers from Hambleton FoodShare are serving soup and a roll for just £2 every Wednesday from the Zion United Reformed Church on Northallerton High Street.

Between midday and 1.30pm they will be serving a choice of three soups and tea and coffee.

“Our soup is made by volunteers, served by volunteers and all the money raised goes to supporting Hambleton FoodShare – your local foodbank which provides emergency food parcels for people who are struggling to feed themselves and their families,” said FoodShare co-ordinator Margaret Brice.

“The aim of the scheme is to provide a three-day emergency food parcel to people in temporary financial crisis who otherwise would have to go hungry due to their various circumstances. This could be because they have lost their job, become incapacitated or the result of a delay in benefit payments.

“As we are a registered charity, we are run almost entirely by volunteers and rely heavily on fund raising. We thought soup and a roll would go down well not only with shoppers but workers needing a quick, cheap and healthy lunch and allow us to raise much needed funds at the same time so please come along and support us.”

Copies of Hambleton FoodShare’s recipe book Cook Smart are also available at the Zion Hall for a small donation.
