A DONATION has given a boost to a play scheme for young people with complex medical needs.

Thirsk Community Care Association has been awarded £250 for its Oaks play scheme, which provides activities and support for children during the school holidays.

The play scheme has temporarily relocated to premises at Northdale Horticulture in Yafforth Road, Northallerton whilst the Mencap Centre on Goosecroft Lane in the town is rebuilt.

The money was donated by Mulberry Homes Yorkshire and will be used to buy a shed to store equipment used by the children.

The developer recently bought £500 worth of sensory play equipment for The Oaks scheme.

David Meacham, Mulberry’s sales and marketing manager, said: “We have built up a good relationship with Thirsk Community Care, who do such amazing work in Hambleton and Richmondshire, so when we heard that they needed help to buy a shed to store the play equipment we were only too glad to help.”

Ellen Cross, chief officer at Thirsk Community Care Association, said: “Two hundred and fifty pounds may not seem like a lot of money to some, but it is to us. So not having to pay for the storage shed ourselves means we can ensure the cash is used for front-line services.”

Thirsk Community Care Association run three specialist holiday play-schemes for children and young people in Hambleton and Richmond with complex needs.

Referrals are made from parents, carers, North Yorkshire County Council and other statutory agencies. For further information telephone 01845-523115 or email; sue.wright@tscca.org.uk
