A CAREERS forum with information and inspiration on careers particularly in the farming and rural sector is being run by the Yorkshire Agricultural Society at the Harrogate showground on Tuesday, October 6.

Trainee auctioneer at Leyburn Auction Mart Jimmy Fawcett, 18, will be passing on the benefit of his experience to other students. He went to the careers forum three years ago as a young student and had a go at auctioneering.

“I was in Year 11 and went along to Careers in Focus with my mother. Auctioneer Scott Donaldson was holding a mock cattle auction, he knows my family and suddenly he called me up to have a go.

"I realized it was something I could perhaps do and that was the start of everything,” said Mr Fawcett.

There will be more than 80 stands at the event, offering information and advice on a whole range of careers and Jimmy will be one of several students who will be talking to youngsters about their experiences. More than 1,500 students from all over North Yorkshire are due to attend.

Organiser, Liz Hudson said: “For the first time we have included a range of short seminars with speakers such as Jimmy who have successfully found a route to a job they love, and are happy to share their experiences and lessons learnt. A new feature is a CV Clinic plus there will be mock interview sessions."
