A PROFESSIONAL production company is preparing to stage its first pantomime in a North Yorkshire town, but says it will be “cheering on” a town’s existing amateur pantomime.

AJ Productions is due to stage Dick Whittington at Northallerton Town Hall from December 16 and is giving local children from its stage schools in the region the chance to work with professional actors.

News that the organisation would be staging its first pantomime in Northallerton had led to speculation over whether there would be any friendly pantomime rivalry between AJ Productions and Northallerton Amateur Variety Company.

The amateur variety company will stage Robinson Crusoe and the Pirates at the Forum theatre in Northallerton from January 24 until January 30 to raise money for local causes.

A spokeswoman for AJ Productions said they intend to be “in the audience, cheering them along," adding: “We have nothing but respect for the amateur society."

Dick Whittington will run from December 16 until January 2 at Northallerton Town Hall.
