A MUSICAL evening has raised £1,000 for Northallerton’s Friarage Hospital MRI scanner appeal.

The King’s Men - a close harmony group formed by seven choral scholars from the choir of King's College, Cambridge - treated a packed audience to a concert at All Saints' Church, Northallerton.

Their repertoire ranged from Byrd's Ave Verum Corpus, written in the 16th century, to the Beach Boys' Get Around and Duke Ellington's Mood Indigo.

The concert was organised by Northallerton Rotary Club - whose donations fund also received nearly £1,000 from the successful concert.

It was the second time in three years the King's Men have sung in Northallerton, and the club hopes to invite them back for a third visit in 2017.

Chairman of the Friends of the Friarage, Dr Upendra Somasundram, said: “I would like to say a big thank you to Rotarian Tom Banfield and the Northallerton Rotary Club for organising the most enjoyable concert for the scanner appeal and to everyone who came along for their support. A MRI scanner for the Friarage will have huge benefits for people living in and around Northallerton.”

Supporters need to raise £2m for the new scanner and have already made well over £1m.
