A SMALL village is to welcome music lovers later this month.

The Cowtonbury Rocking on the Roof festival will take place at The Beeswing Inn in East Cowton, near Northallerton, on Sunday, August 30.

It is being staged to raise money for Herriot Hospice Homecare and is the second time the event has been held with organisers hoping to beat last year’s fundraising total of £8,000.

The headline act this year will be Sugartown and ten bands in total have so far been confirmed, with more to be added.

There will also be a family fun day with face painting and a bouncy castle. Hutchinson Hobbs, a farm shop in Yarm, will be providing a hog roast and barbecue and National Espresso, a double decker mobile cafe, will serve drinks and snacks, including cakes. Drinks will also be available from the Beeswing and there will be a Pimms bar in the garden.

There will also be a raffle and silent auction, with people being able to bid for, among other things, a sea fishing trip from Whitby and the chance to own a racehorse for a day at Catterick Racecourse.

Landlady of the Beeswing Inn, Beth Robinson, said they are hoping to raise more than £10,000 this year for the charity.

Cowtonbury starts at 1.30pm on August 30. Tickets are £15 with children-under 12 free. For tickets ring The Beeswing on; 01325 -378349.
