ONE of the region’s biggest free food festivals has announced the talented line-up for its culinary demonstrations.

The Northallerton Homegrown Food Festival, now in its fourth year, will be held on June 28 on the town’s Applegarth.

It showcases of best of local food and drink and last year attracted more than 6,000 visitors.

Among its features are a Food Theatre where well-known chefs demonstrate some of their secrets.

And those taking part this year include Steph Moon, famed for her appearances on TV’s Great British Menu, Simon Crannage, head chef of Swinton Park in Masham and Matthew Roath, head chef of the Yorkshire Dining Pub of the Year, the Buck Inn at Maunby.

In addition there will be a Kid’s Kitchen featuring interactive workshops aimed at young children including bread-making and sweet treats.

Other activities include the Tipple Tent serving locally-brewed beers, spirits and wines, two stages of live music and the Grow Zone, a pop-up allotment to encourage people to grow their own fruit, vegetables and herbs, no matter how small their garden.

One of the organisers, Sally Anderson, said: “The Food Theatre and Kids’ Kitchen are always such highlights.

“Last year, the Kids’ Kitchen sold out days before and it was a joy to see so many little ones and their parents learning to make all sorts of things from bread and fresh pasta to cakes and cordials.”
