AN EVENT to encourage dancers of all ages and abilities to take part in various styles saw more than 60 people try out ballet, jazz and swing.

Hambleton District Council’s annual Day of Dance also aims to highlight what classes are available in the area.

Dancers were able to try out African, ballet, swing, Irish, gymnastics, freestyle fitness yoga, and new for this year was lyrical dance – a fusion of ballet, jazz and contemporary, and inclusive for people with and without disabilities.

Ed Pratt was on hand to offer sports massages, and injury prevention and treatment advice, and refreshments were provided by Proper Tasty.

“It was a fantastic day and wonderful to see so many people taking part and enjoying themselves,” said Kate Staine, development officer for arts and recreation.

“The focus of the event is all about participation, and people get to try new dance styles and meet new people.”

The council has produced a dance directory for anyone unable to attend the event, which is available at council offices in Northallerton, Easingwold and Stokesley and leisure centres in Bedale, Northallerton, Stokesley and Thirsk.
