DEDICATED young musicians staged a rip-roaring performance of a Queen classic to bring months of rehearsals and effort to a tumultuous climax.

A 50-strong cast of performers and stage crew from the Allertonshire School in Northallerton raised the curtain on We Will Rock You, a head-banging floor-shaker by Ben Elton, adapted by David Roden.

Performances included a matinee for children from local feeder primary school and packed houses of friends and family.

Set in the future, the musical traces the growing resistance movement in an autocratic world.

Performers rehearsed at break and lunchtimes and after school from September last year to ensure peerless performances of a complicated show.

Musical director Mary David said: “The students have been absolutely brilliant. I didn’t think they could possibly top last year’s production of Grease, but they did.

“It is such a difficult musical that I was concerned we may have taken too much on but I needn’t have worried – they were superb.”

Student Alex Kennedy said: “Being part of the production has really boosted my confidence and a great way to end Year Nine at the Allertonshire.”
