A BUDDING photographer has so impressed one of the region’s leading professional galleries that his work has been selected for a special award.

Seven-year-old Miles Boasman took a photograph of All Saints Church in Northallerton, North Yorkshire, as part of a school project run for pupils in years two and three at the town’s Applegarth School.

Teachers were so impressed that his image was selected to be entered into an exhibition called Northallerton10 being run at the Joe Cornish Gallery.

At the exhibition launch party Miles’s image entitled The Church made a special impact on the judges who commended his photograph and awarded him a prize of a Twin Lens reflex 35mm camera kit.

Jo Rose the Northallerton gallery’s exhibition manager, said: “We were delighted to select this image of the church, the photograph stood out as being particularly impressive, sharp and well composed.”

The overall winner of the competition was an image by Tony Jones of the Applegarth park entitled Parklight.

The Northallerton10 competition is a community event open to local photographers with entries from a wide range of ages. All images are being displayed at the gallery in Zetland Street until March 14.
