A FOODBANK has made an urgent appeal for stock after levels reached an all-time low.

Hambleton Foodshare, in Northallerton, is issuing more than 30 emergency food parcels a week to people in need as the charity approaches its second birthday. it says there has been a big increase in people needing help over the winter months.

“We have already issued over 2,000 parcels since opening in March 2013 - but sadly the need is greater than ever,” said co-ordinator, Margaret Brice. “Now due to this extreme pressure on our stocks, we are appealing for additional donations to replenish our shelves.”

She said stocks of potatoes, ready meals, tinned pies and stews, tinned vegetables, evaporated milk, UHT milk, rice pudding, custard, jellies, bottles of squash, small bags of sugar, deodorant, and small jars of coffee are desperately needed."

They can be left at collection points in Age UK, Northallerton shop, near Tesco, Hambleton Furniture store, New Life Baptist Church, and other local churches, Sainsbury’s and Hambleton District Council’s Civic Centre.

Food parcels are issued every Monday evening from Zion Church Hall.

The group is also keen to hear from community groups, workplaces or businesses willing to act as a collection point.
