AMBITIOUS plans have been unveiled for a major upgrade for a town park – and local people are being given their say.

Northallerton Town Council is planning major works at the Bullamoor Park and is holding two information days to get more people involved.

The project, which will cost somewhere in the region of £192,000 in total, will be carried out in three phases.

The first phase will include a multi-use games area, two tennis courts and the installation of outdoor gym equipment.

That will cost some £60,000 and, with the cash coming from the town council’s own coffers, work is expected to start in the not-too-distant future.

The second phase will see the installation of a 200m running track, costing about £114,000, and the third phase will be the refurbishment of the little play-park at a cost of around £18,000.

However money for the final two phases has to be raised and the authority is looking to form a working group of interested local people to take the scheme forward and help apply for funding.

The council has been working on the proposals for the last 18 months and the plans have been drawn up after consultations with local people.

“This is a big project for the town council and this is an area we have been looking to develop for some time,” said town clerk Sue Fraser.

“This is something that should be really good for the town – and we want to have plenty of community involvement.”

The information days will be held at the town hall on March 4 and 7 between 10am and 4pm. Those interested in joining the working group should contact the town hall on 01609-776718.
