A JURY was sent home by a judge for the second night running after failing to reach verdicts in a rape trial.

The panel trying the case of Kristofer McLaren and Craig Whitelaw will reform tomorrow to continue its discussions.

The ten men and two women spent more than four hours deliberating at Teesside Crown Court this afternoon.

Mr McLaren and Mr Whitelaw, both 21, from Thirsk, North Yorkshire, each deny two charges of raping a teenager.

It is alleged that they took advantage of the drunken brunette and had a "threesome" with her in a dark alleyway.

They claim the sex - after meeting in Club Amadeus in Northallerton, North Yorkshire last summer - was consensual.

Mr McLaren, of Rymer Way, and Mr Whitelaw, of Ivy Cottage, Sutton, will return to court for ninth day tomorrow.

Late this afternoon, the jury found Mr Whitelaw guilty of a charge of sexually assaulting the complainant.
