A CHURCH is planning to spread a bit of happiness as part of a year of anniversary celebrations.

The Methodist Church in Northallerton is 150-years-old and has seen countless weddings over the years.

And it is inviting as many people as possible that have been married there since 1940 to special event to be held on April 25.

“As we only have the addresses given on the marriage register, we would like people to let us know where they are living now so that we can send them an official invitation,” said church member Lynn Wilkinson.

“Some will have moved away from the area, so we would also like to hear from friends and family who have been to weddings at the church and can give us a current address.

“Sadly some of the older ones may have died and some may have divorced. We need to hear about those too so that we can stop searching for them.”

On the day itself there will be a short service, followed by a buffet tea – and plenty of time to catch up with everyone's news.

It is also hoped to have a display of wedding clothes and possibly wedding flowers over the years - and anyone that has items which could go on show is also invited to get in touch.

Anyone with information which might help is invited to drop it in at the church or send it by post to Celebration of Marriage, Northallerton Methodist Church, High Street, Northallerton, DL7 8EG.
