STUDENTS have been praised for their woolly thinking after raising funds to buy antibiotics for babies fighting infections.

Northallerton College students attended classes in their most weird and wonderful knitted creations to boost the fundraising drive by Save the Children, which helps children in more than 120 countries.

Sixth-form students Anthony Boersma, who has helped in the Northallerton’s Save the Children charity shop for the past four years, and Emma Wilson said donations for the Christmas jumper day were still being collected.

The 17-year-old said: “I started helping the charity when I did my Duke of Edinburgh Award and have continued ever since.

“We put posters around the college, emailed form tutors and appealed through social media.

"I was delighted with the turn-out and support from staff and students.”

Emma added: “It’s a great charity to support and the students were really proud to show off their wears.”
