MOTHER and daughter Donna and Samantha Ainsley went to great heights to give a financial boost to the Friarage Hospital’s Scott suite cancer unit.

Donna, 52, received treatment for breast cancer at the Northallerton unit and wanted to do whatever she could to say thank you to the team there.

So she and Samantha, 23, literally took the plunge – skydiving from 12,000ft at the Peterlee Parachute Centre.

Donna, a customer consultant at Yorkshire Building Society’s Northallerton branch, said: “I’m too scared to go to Alton Towers, but doing a parachute jump was something I have always wanted to do.

“I was nervous just before I did the jump when I was sat on the edge of the plane, but the experience of doing it was fantastic.”

She added: “The care I received from the nurses at Scott suite was brilliant and I wanted to do what I could to support the amazing work they do.

Thanks to the generosity of family, friends and customers who sponsored her, the pair raised £600 and Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation donated a further £1,055 making a grand total of £1,655.

The money has been use to buy a flexible ultrasound couch, will improve comfort for future patients treated on the unit at the hospital.
