NORTHALLERTON police have issued CCTV images of people they believe could hold vital evidence about a vicious assault which left a man with serious injuries.

The attack happened on June 15 but police say the victim is still recovering from his injuries after a plate had to be inserted in his head and he is waiting to hear whether there has been permanent damage to his sight.

The man in his 30s was punched to the side of his head and kicked in the face as he lay on the ground in the attack which happened as he was walked along Bullamoor Road into Elm Grove.

The CCTV shows a couple who were walking behind the man across The Forum car park and four men who were walking in front of him at around 3am.

He had been on a night out after watching the England v Italy World Cup match. Police say there is no suggestion the people in the images were involved in the attack but they could hold vital information.

“Even if they did not witness the assault, their information could still be useful to officers who are working to get justice for the victim,” added a police spokesman.
