PEOPLE are being sought to follow in the footsteps of a famous comic-strip running hero and take part in a muddy 10km race.
Outdoor Adventure estate, Camp Hill, near Bedale, is to host the first ever Alf Tupper 10km cross-country on October 19.
Alf Tupper was a post-war comic strip hero; a northern working-class lad who became a fixture in boys' comics The Victor and The Rover for over 40 years in his series of ‘Tough of the Track’.
The Camp Hill Estate says the 10K run is a traditional cross-country race that Alf, the comic-strip running hero, would have enjoyed taking part in.
Alf, the eternal underdog faced plenty of pitfalls as he got in shape for each big race, taking on and beat snooty opponents with his catchphrase "I've run 'em" and then would celebrate afterwards with fish ‘n chips.
The race will raise funds for the local charity, The Acorn Committee, which cares for people in Yorkshire with dementia and their carers and also for research into Scleroderma disease.
Robert Ropner from The Camp Hill Estate said: “We are really pleased to be raising money for this important local charity and hope that we can really make a difference for them. We hope that we will have lots of runners taking part in the Alf Tupper as it is going to be really good fun.
“It is a back to basics race; the mud is already here, the gates and fences are your hurdles, the ditches and fallen trees are your challenge.”
