AN OPEN day for ostomy patients at Northallerton’s Friarage Hospital will take place to allow them to flearn more about the most recent care and comfort products.

The hospital’s stoma care department is holding the open day on Wednesday, September 17 from 11am to 3pm in the nurses’ recreation hall, to help patients come to terms with having a stoma.

Bianca Grainger, 35, from Northallerton, attended the last event two years ago. She said: “It was eye opening and a very useful event. I did not realise how many different stoma manufacturers there are, as well as the range of products available.

“As a patient you have a choice what to wear and the open day gives you the opportunity to see what is out there as well as providing support.”

Colorectal and stoma nurses from the department will be on hand to give help and advice and chat to patients. There will be tea, coffee and refreshments and free parking is available at the hospital.

Proceeds from a tombola to be held on the day will go to the Friarage MRI scanner appeal.
