A timely exhibition of historic clocks will help raise money for the Friarage Hospital MRI scanner appeal at Northallerton.

The show is being organised by David Severs, a retired chief superintendent with North Yorkshire police who is a descendent of two Northallerton clockmakers.

He said it has long been his dream to stage an exhibition to share his knowledge and interest of clocks. The exhibition will be held at Tennants Auction Centre in Leyburn from September 27 to October 22. A charity preview evening in aid of the scanner appeal will be held from 6pm to 8pm on Friday, September 26.

Supporters need to raise £2m for the new scanner and have already made well over £1m.

The exhibition will feature 29 grandfather clocks, nine wall clocks, two table clocks and six watches made or sold in Northallerton by clockmakers spanning 150 years from 1749.

The event is being sponsored by Archers Removals of Northallerton, Barkers of Northallerton and Swinton Park Hotel. York clock dealer Edward Bacon, Northallerton enthusiast, Angus Bell and the Brompton-on-Swale clock restorer Howard Walker are helping Mr Severs prepare for the exhibition.
