STAFF have been allowed back in to Northallerton Police Station after a suspicious package was found not to be dangerous.
A man was arrested and staff were evacuated this morning after the discovery of a package at Northallerton Police Staion.
Army bomb disposal officers from Catterick Garrison were called to the station to ensure the package was safe.
Neighbouring buildings were evacuated and a section of Northallerton Hiugh Street was closed.
The cordon was lifted at about 11.15am.
The police spokesman said earlier: “Officers are currently dealing with an incident at Northallerton Police Station following the discovery of a suspicious package.
“As a precaution staff have been evacuated from the station as well as from two adjacent buildings. The road outside the station has also been temporarily closed pending the arrival of an army team from Catterick Garrison to check the package.
“We would like to reassure local residents and visitors to the town that the incident is being dealt with professionally and the risk to the public is believed to be low."
“A 25-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and is being questioned in custody.“
