ACADEMIC excellence, sporting ability and community spirit were all rewarded at a North Yorkshire school award ceremony.

Allertonshire School, Northallerton, celebrated the achievements of its students with a trophy packed presentation night to recognise a host of educational achievements and contributions to school life.

The event was hosted by Year Nine pupils Theadora Crocker and Alex Vayro with help from associate head teacher Chris Byrne.

“This evening reflects the breadth of opportunity that is available to students at the Allertonshire and the dedication and commitment of all our staff,” said Mr Byrne.

“All the young people who received an award have made the most of these opportunities and their endeavours and achievements are a great source of pride to us all.”

As well as presenting the awards student Theadora, 14, was also one of the recipients of the Ben Hyde Award for competitive spirit in sport – named after a former pupil killed in Iraq in 2003.

“I think it’s wonderful that the school has an awards night like this. It makes you feel very proud to be recognised,” she said.

Chair of Governors Rob Barker praised the students and teachers for their hard work and enthusiasm.

“I am so pleased to be able to be a part of such a wonderful celebration,” he said.
