A CONGREGATION has been putting its artistic skills to good use in the run-up to Easter.

Fourteen “Stations of the Cross” have been created in a variety of styles - including painting, sculpture and collage - and put on display displayed inside All Saints Church, Northallerton.

The project was overseen by Peter Harbord who said: “The Stations of the Cross are a traditional way of re-enacting Jesus’s last journey through Jerusalem from the Garden of Gethsemane to Calvary.

“But we put a fresh slant on it by asking the congregations of our three churches to use their own ideas and inspiration to create images.

“A couple of those who volunteered are experienced artists, but most just used enthusiasm and imagination to come up with some amazing results.”

The three churches – All Saints, St James in Romanby and St Lawrence at Kirby Sigston – are currently without a vicar and members felt it important to find an activity which would help keep them moving forward and generate interest both within and beyond the Church.

Each image interprets a passage in the Bible describing a particular event in the hours leading up to the death of Jesus.
