BRITAIN’S largest army garrison in the world has become the site of a local hospice care charity’s seventh shop.

Herriot Hospice Homecare has opened its latest store in Catterick Garrison, Richmondshire.

The shop, on Richmond Road opposite the Princes Gate Retail Park, was officially opened by Lieutenant Colonel Joe Jordan, the garrison commander.

Among the goods on display on the first day were designer fashion brands such as Ted Baker, Radley, Guess, Viyella and Hackett London while homewares included Royal Doulton china and Poole Pottery.

Given its location, the shop will also sell dresses and outfits for Army mess events, as well as linens, furniture and electricals for soldiers and their families moving to Catterick.

And that is something new store manager Dawn Culver knows plenty about - having been an Army wife herself for 22 years.

She explained: “Army personnel and their families can move around a lot and furnishing a new home can be very expensive, so we can offer high quality goods at value for money prices."

The offices above the shop will be rented to commercial businesses, providing further income for the charity.
