A PRIMARY school marked the opening of its new library in the presence of a children’s author and illustrator.

Le Cateau Primary School in Catterick Garrison was opened alongside teachers, parents and pupils.

The school welcomed children’s author Karen Langtree and illustrator Gill McLean, who were named the school’s patrons of reading.

They worked with pupils during the week and were on hand to sign books at the grand opening.

Jo Attrill, English leader, said: “Karen and Gill have been working with children and leading us through the process of writing a story, illustrating the characters and how a book is finally produced.

“Our new library will provide opportunities for children across the school.

“The children can borrow books of their choice, read together in class sessions and we will also be holding story sessions at lunchtimes and as part of our school day.

“Librarians from Key Stage Two will be taking an important role in helping us develop the library as well as sharing stories with younger children."
